TRUTH IN TAXATION NOTICE

Per 35 ILCS 200/18-80: “The notice shall appear not more than 14 days nor less than 7 days prior to the date of the public hearing. The notice shall be no less than 1/8 page in size, and the smallest type used shall be 12 point and shall be enclosed in a black border no less than 1/4 inch wide. The notice shall not be placed in that portion of the newspaper where legal notices and classified advertisements appear. The notice shall be published in substantially the following form:”

Text Box: Notice of Proposed Property Tax Increase for Meridian Community Unit School District No. 223 I. A public hearing to approve a proposed property tax levy increase for Meridian Community Unit School District No. 223, Ogle and Winnebago Counties, Illinois for 2024 will be held on November 7, 2024, at 6:00 PM at the Meridian Junior High Board of Education Room, 207 W. Main Street, Stillman Valley, IL 61084. Any person desiring to appear at the public hearing and present testimony to the taxing district may contact Dr. PJ Caposey, Superintendent, at 207 W Main St., Stillman Valley, 815-980-0310. II. The corporate and special purpose property taxes extended or abated for 2023 were $12,291,393. The proposed corporate and special purpose property taxes to be levied for 2024 are $13,441,626. This represents a 9.36% increase over the previous year. III. The property taxes extended for debt service and public building commission leases for 2023 were $1,648,880. The estimated property taxes to be levied for debt service and public building commission leases for 2024 are $1,648,668. This represents a 0% increase over the previous year. IV. The total property taxes extended or abated for 2023 were $13,940,273. The estimated total property taxes to be levied for 2024 are $15,090,506. This represents a 8.25% increase over the previous year.
