Congrats to Meridian’s Elaine Nicholson

Meridian’s Elaine Nicholson wins state’s highest honor for District secretaries

Created in 2009, the Holly Jack Outstanding Service Award honors the memory of longtime IASB administrative assistant, Holly Jack. The purpose of the award is both to honor Holly’s contribution and to recognize the extraordinary work and service provided by administrative professionals who assist their local boards of education.

In order to qualify for the recognition, nominees must demonstrate characteristics that Holly Jack found essential in her work with local school districts. Some of these qualifications include a constant desire for self-improvement, passion for public education work, dedication toward improving the quality of life for others and the quality of education in the community, independent problem solving abilities, and innovation and imagination within the work environment.

This year’s nominees came from throughout the state of Illinois and from all sizes and types of school districts. ALL nominees were outstanding candidates, but one winner out of the over 850 districts in Illinois stood out above the rest, Mrs. Elaine Nicholson. The Meridian CUSD 223 team’s letters of support described Elaine’s impact and character well. The letters of support included phrases such as “I trust her implicitly; an empath, a nurturer and a healer; an expert in multiple operating systems and a leader of others; brought trust back to the position, assumed leadership roles never imagined; turned a dysfunctional frontline position and office into an inviting professional work atmosphere.”

Meridian CUSD 223 Superintendent noted that this achievement was well earned. “Elaine is the glue that holds our team together. On the ‘soft side’, she is the perfect fit necessary to support the complex personalities on our team and on the technical side she is incredibly competent and willing to take on difficult tasks previously never considered part of the job description. She is truly exceptional at what she does.”

The 2021 Holly Jack Outstanding Service Award will be presented at the Opening Session of the Administrative Professionals’ Program on Friday, November 19, in the Swissotel, Vevey Rooms 1-4 at 1:00 p.m.
