Board Sponsored Community Focus Group Scheduled
Wednesday, October 28 at SVHS at 7:00 p.m.

October 17, 2009

The Meridian CUSD #223 School Board will host its fourth community focus group session on Wednesday, October 28 at Stillman Valley High School at 7:00 p-.m. in the multi-purpose room. The purpose of the focus group is for the School Board to gain a better understanding of the participating community members perspectives on the School District.
Each School Board member and administrator has invited five community members to participate in the session, which has the goal of representing a cross section of the community. The invited community members were asked to R.S.V.P. Because not all of those invited are able to attend, the Board would like to provide an open invitation to any community member who would like to participate. If interested in attending, please contact the District office at (815) 645-2606.

During the first part of the program, District Superintendent Bob Prusator will provide student achievement, demographic and financial information to the focus group. Next, the participating community members will be randomly assigned into seven small groups. Serving as facilitators in the groups will be Meridian CUSD #223 administrators, directors and representatives from the Stillman Valley Education Association. A Meridian School Board member will also be assigned to each group. The groups will be asked to respond to topics that the Board is interested in receiving feedback. Transportation will be focal topic at this session. The small group component of the session is scheduled to last approximately sixty minutes.

During the final part of the focus group session, each group will report to the full group the five highest priority items that were discussed in their small group. Additionally, each group will also report a composite trust score. Feedback from the session will be used in developing goals for the District’s Improvement Plan which seeks continuous improvement for students. Past focus group sessions have provided the School Board with meaningful information and feedback on the perspectives of the community.
